3.4 #8

This page is a little bit late, sorry about that! Yesterday was my “birthday” so I spend the majority of it hanging out and enjoying stuff.

see y’all next week.

  1. And Neil is gonna be all “You tried and you failed. But always remember; you failed.”

      • In the Team Fortress 2 update “Meet Your Match”, the ever disapproving Administrator got a new line when you were on the losing team, which was the above.

    • I thought of similar but slightly different line from The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody. For those of you who haven’t heard it, it goes “you’re trying, but not succeeding.”

      • It was between the one I posted or “I’m speechless… Oh wait, here’s one. Four score and seven years ago you were awful. Leading up to just now, where nothing at all has changed. God bless the Badlands. Thank you and goodnight.”

  2. Oh, we are impressed.

Impressed at just how phenomenally stupid and careless you are. Go stand over there, out of the way, while a professional handles this.

    • Watch while an amateur with no training other than experience handles the job better than you.

      • Sometimes the best teacher IS experience as you tend to be able to do a better job than someone who learnt theory for the same amount of time as you have been learning on the job. Also Neil is classed as an ANTIBODY hero, one that deals with unnatural issues that others can’t (like the Oni) instead of crimes

  3. Neil went through a learning curve as well, the smoky guy had to give him guidance. VD seems trainable. Neil’s cousin is adorable. Interesting how she’s kinda like Clifford the big red dog, in the respect that no one seems to notice her size.

    • Someone who thinks “VD” is an adequate superhero logo probably isn’t trainable, no. That speaks to a total lack of basic sense.

  4. Bluebelle is NOT impressed by VD. Oh and happy belated birthday to you Satellite 9,as long as there’s NO liquor involved.

  5. Bluebelle is NOT impressed by VD. Oh and happy belated birthday to you Satellite 9,as long as there’s NO liquor involved.

  6. Impressive how VD summed up the worst possible mindset to have in the life saving business in one sentence. Simple fact is there is a huge difference in effectiveness between people whom are doing what would be considered heroic to be a “hero” (in it for fame) and people who see it as a job and responsibility. Acting like you have something to prove can get you killed or put others in greater danger.

Also Impressive how effective VD is at distracting the one available person that can take out an Oni from the giant freaking Oni.

    • The only thing about VD that at all redeems him is he was he was honest. He didn’t try to lie, bluster or charm his way out of his mistake.

      • That’s… not much of a redeeming factor. Being honest about being terrible still means you’re terrible.

        • Agreed. It isn’t much. And agreed VD is terrible. “A” for effort, “F” for the rest. Whatever teachers he has back at that superhero school of his have to be facepalming right now unless their standards are very, very low.

Being able to admit you’re terrible is the path to being un-terrible, however. That’s all VD has going for him right now..

        • Yes. However, it also means that you aren’t even more terrible: you did something very wrong, but you avoided making a new mistake that would be to recuse to admit it. It’s the first step to improvement.

        • Yes. However, it also means that you aren’t even more terrible: you did something very wrong, but you avoided making a new mistake that would be to recuse to admit it. It’s the first step to improvement.

        • True… But he genuinely looks embarrassed about his stupid choices. I think he may just be kinda dumb.

  7. I assumed he was trying to impress Neil and I can’t wait util he finds out about Neils other form.

  8. The cracking effect for injuries to the shell… makes me think Magical Girls are like dolls. … Given I honestly wish I was a doll, that makes this page pretty distracting.

      • Dolls are low maintenance and chemically inert, don’t get zits and always look their best. They don’t expend effort merely to go nowhere and are almost always free of parasites.

        • Also very pretty and feminine, which is… kinda attractive as a not-remotely-passing, dysphoric trans girl. And due to some of my psychological issues, I… kinda find the idea of being something that’s more cared for and owned than making its own decisions comforting, and that’s usually the case with dolls? (That said, I prefer ball-jointed or porcelain to, say, barbies and the like?)

So… yeah. I… kinda have issues? x.x; Sorry about that!

  9. Quick, the 18-year-old who hasn’t been a hero very long made a mistake and assumed things about the main character! Let’s rip him apart in the comment section based solely on this ~3 minutes of interactions we’ve had with him!

C’mon people. Reserve some judgement. He likely has no information or knowledge about what the Oni are or their super-special weakness. You can see from his behavior here that he’s sorry and he means well. He’s just an overconfident blockhead. A doofus. Nothing worth crucifying him over.

  10. Don’t “try to be impressive,” buddy. Just do your job, and let them be impressed.

  11. The glass on the beach as bad as it is will be the easier cleanup, it is the glass that is now all under the water near the shore line that will be the real danger to swimmers and people playing in the water.

  12. Happy (belated) Birthday!

And VD, if you chose being impressive as your meterstick for being heroic, you chose….poorly. Perhaps you should try being an effective hero as your meterstick for being impressive?

  13. Moving on, it was brought to my attention by a fellow reader that Neil’s cousin has morphed into a giant Retriever. But she definitely looks like she’s related to Neil’s Dad’s side of the family. But Neil got his power from Mom’s side of the family. Hmmmm, must be more to Dad’s side that hasn’t been brought forward yet? Panel 4 is adorable.

    • It was actually from an injection she brought in her bag. Dunno if that really counts as special powers (if thats what you’re implying)

      • Ahhh, I remember now. All details taken care of then, no flaws in this story line. ; )

      • Ahhh, I remember now. All details taken care of then, no flaws in this story line. ; )

      • Ahhh, I remember now. All details taken care of then, no flaws in this story line. ; )

        • We still don’t know where Nanase and Ellen are. Unless they are now taking care of the monster …

  14. I liked the look of shock on VD’s face in panel two when Neil just grabs the glass shard in her leg and pulls it out.

  15. As much as I’d hate for Neil to be stuck on cleanup duty. I am wondering if he can summon a giant sieve to sift all the glass and wood splinters out of the sand.

    • Wow, Bluebelle’s potentially SO MUCH more effective than VD that she can clean up after the fool as well! I’m sure that will make Neil even happier about the average humans he must tolerate daily.
