Hello all! It’s been quite a while. I hope you’re doing well.

Slowly but surely I have been recovering from my surgery and returning to drawing. I still have a few weeks to go until I’m all healed, and all the extra downtime has given me plenty of time to think about my plans for the future. I’m redesigning my patreon campaign at the moment, and feel that this is a good time to announce that I will not be returning to Magical Girl Neil for the foreseeable future. Making this comic has been an interesting and educational experience, but I currently have other projects that I am more passionate about.

Magical Girl Neil was created on a whim five years ago by an inexperienced idiot who didn’t know the first thing about writing or drawing. There was no plan, no story, it was literally drawn off the top of my head one page at a time. Since then I have improved as both an artist and a writer. While a proper plotline has developed, I have often found myself feeling limited by past mistakes. I am proud of the progress that the comic has made, however, I know that now I can do much better.

As someone who dreams of one day becoming a full-time illustrator, I know that I need to begin producing content that can stand well on its own, and not just on the grounds that it shows how much my skills have improved. There are several different short works that I wish to produce that have much more potential to be pitched to publishers, or be used in a portfolio. I have decided that these potential door-opening prospects need to take priority if I am ever going to be able to reach my personal goals.

Don’t get me wrong! I still fully intend to return to MGN at some point and continue with updates. The story is still here, and for all its faults there are many parts that I love. But when that will be, I simply cannot say. I do thank you all for your readership and support, and hope my future exploits will bring you much enjoyment as well.

IF YOU ARE SUBSCRIBED TO MY PATREON: My campaign will be starting back up again quite soon. If you were pledged specifically for Magical Girl Neil content, or are in any other way dissatisfied with the content I’ve been creating, you may feel free to delete your pledge at your leisure. Really, you could do that anyway, but as the Patreon has now been retooled to be a more general art and comics campaign, I felt I should make sure you were all aware of the changes.
